Chispa had her "assessment interview" for the Jewish Day School (K-8) last Wed. Right as she was coming down with this latest virus she has. The virus is no biggie, but a fever developed that afternoon. I think she would have acted like this anyway, to be honest. They asked the 6 kids to sit in a circle. Chispa made a big fake pouty lip, kicked the floor and refused to sit. I got her to sit on my lap in the circle. They threw a ball to each kid and had them say their name. Chispa's friend Bee cheerfully announced her name with full vigor, the model of how it's done. Chispa refused to say her name, OR throw the ball.
Hi, my name is Gruppie Mama. Isn't our daughter a gem?
Then they showed the kids the games they would do with each teacher, and the stations, and said the parents would be in the next room. Chispa wasn't keen on that either. Then L (one of the teachers) approached with markers, which intrigued our artiste enough for me to make a quick exit. As far as I know she was more cooperative after I left.
I believe they are mostly screening for learning disabilities, since private schools aren't equipped to help. And outright horrible kids.
Another friend's daughter informed them that she "was all done answering questions, I'm tired." And she lay smack down on the floor in the middle of her interview. They took her.
So hopefully, they will still take Chispa, Strong Willed Temperament and all. OMG.
She did draw a stunning pic of the galaxy! And read the words they asked her to read. (she told me that), so at least she demonstrated she doesn't have major problems in those areas. Our kid just does not transition into anything new well.
You gotta love being the parent of "that kid". Life is never dull. And of course, you hope the school will recognize Chispa for all her fabulous characteristics, more difficult ones aside.
