First Day of Kindergarten- do we win an award?

So Chispa is at her first day of Kindergarten today! Yesterday was a meet-your-class day for 2 hours. She was nervous yesterday, but then came out saying "Mommy, Kindergarten was better than I thought. I LOVE Kindergarten" She's become instant friends with another little girl with the same name, who we'll call Chispa P. Yes, 2 Chispas in one class. Oh well! They are fast friends, and full of hugs and happiness.

She was still a little nervous today, but dressed in all her most favorite finery. She asked me in the car "Mommy, did you feel a little nervous when you started Kindergarten?" I said, yes, I probably did Chispa, but I think I was also happy to play with new friends. She agreed that was how she felt.

The whole family attended this fine event, Mr. H and Changa too. Changa inaugurated the event by throwing herself on the floor of the entry hall, in a big giant three year old fit. Why not, really, right?

And as soon as Chispa saw Chispa P. they were all hugs. She brought a pink cloth flower for Chispa P. that she'd scrounged at Michael's and was in her treasure collection. (the kind staff had said it was fine to take home broken cloth flowers on the floor) She was careful to explain to me she didn't like the stem as much on that one, so it was OK to give to Chispa P., because it was still pretty. Ha ha.

Then we had a parent coffee. Then I gathered up Changa to go running at the reservoir. Half way around, I got THE CALL.

When my cell phone rang, I figured, nah, I'll ignore it, I'm running. Then I thought. What if.......No. It can't be. Well, yes, it WAS. The School. ALREADY?
Chispa was flipping the pickle out, as Mr. H and I both forgot to warn her they were doing lice checks as some kids had had it over summer. She was put on the phone by apologetic Hebrew teacher, and Chispa was adamant. NO. I'm NOT doing it. I told her she would get ladybug stickers for it. Nope. The teacher said she'd try again. I said worst case, once I got around the whole run, I could come back. I did NOT want to come back. Bad message for Chispa, right? Then I double guess myself, decide I don't want to color her whole first day because of the damn lice check. I call the office back. Is Chispa still screaming? No, R, the kind office person said. She left laughing. WHAT, I say? How? Really? Well, R said, it was the funniest thing. After you hung up, she said "Hey, I'm missing Hebrew class, can we please go back? I don't want to miss Hebrew." The 2nd Hebrew teacher that was with her said, how about I check you real fast and we'll go back? Apparently, Chispa said, "OK" and off they went. End of fit. Do we win awards for getting a call two hours in? At least I didn't have to come in, right? She has to navigate her own battles eventually, right?

We pick her up in about 30 minutes. Who knows what other tales we'll have to tell!
