Amazingly, Chispa apparently LOVED soccer. My Mom said she was happily running around the whole time with the other children, as was A. I saw the last 5 minutes. She was almost crying when it ended, she didn't want it to be over! So maybe it IS possible for her to like something that is an organized team sport afterall? Maybe? Maybe???? I was so happy to hear that it went OK, despite my not being there. Theater sure didn't go that smoothly. Maybe running around in a park on a beautiful 75F day is easier. Maybe the key is to send her with Nana and no Mom?
We let the kids play for a while, then I raced off to bail out my Matzah for Passover, which I'd put on hold at a farther-from-our-house Safeway. Why? Because Trader Joe's randomly isn't carrying it this year, even though they've had it for years and years. Because the closest Safeway only had dregs left, and no 5-packs. Because Whole Foods had 5 packs for $13.99, which I refuse to pay, on principle, for crappy Manischewitz matzah. So the farther Safeway had a 5 pack for $3.99. That's ten dollars less. I bought 2 packs, just in case, for that price. And then I bought some Matzah cake meal. And then I bought some horseradish. I did well. Time to head home and get everyone fed.
Then I called my friend C.
"Gee, I was thinking of calling you just now."
"Really? What's up?"
"I was thinking of asking you for a really big favor."
"What do you need?"
C had had a terrible work week, was stuck in traffic, and needed to choose between being on time to pick up her kids from aftercare and getting a workout before she lost her mind.
"Say no more," I say "it's not a problem. I KNOW how it is when I can't get a workout and I'm this close to putting on my super b!tch cape!"
So I go and pick up c. and c. from daycare (I'm on the list, but I've never done it), and call my Mom to ask her to throw on some fishsticks. Sometimes, even as much of a chef as I am, the day isn't happening. Now we can just feed kids, and wind down right?
Wrong.
Another friend calls with super-time sensitive documents that will have a big impact and need proofing. I end up proofing them up to the deadline, but they needed tone adjustment, and I'm glad I was able to help.
C came in the middle to get her kids, but we felt she needed to eat too, so we fed her the leftovers we adults were grazing on. Our kids were hyped up and leaping about maniacally they were so happy to have c. and c. over, clearly overtired at this point. The C's cleared out. My Mom headed home, with grateful thanks from us. Mr. H and I wrestled the monkeys into bed.
Now I'm here.
Why do I feel like I live in a 3-ring circus????? Anyone have any guesses?

Hooray for liking soccer!!
And wow, you had a VERY busy day. :)
What a nutty day! The best part is it doesn't sound like a particularly unusual day -- just another GM day, juggling your kids, giving them love in 12 different ways, and helping out. I do fantasize about sending you to a spa. Just so you know.
