I just have to give a shout out to Canon and their awesome customer service. I have loved our multifunction Canon Pixma MP780. I loved it so much, I've told multiple others to buy them. My mother in law has two one at home, one at work! We bought ours 4 years ago, have used it gently, and all was good. It prints, copies, scans, faxes. But, inexplicably, it died. I was so bummed. I took it in to a local place, and determined not one but TWO things were wrong with it. One was a $50 part, and one was a cheap part, but that involved labor. Suckorama. I called Canon to tell them how much I loved my printer, and how disappointed I was that these parts died so quickly. I figured, can't hurt to ask, righ? They said the 2nd part couldn't be sent separately, so they would replace it with a refurbished one. Great, now that's customer service! Imagine my surprise when a brand new, not refurbished, Pixma 850 showed up. In fact, 2 showed up on my doorstep. I think they had a computer glitch. It's a good thing, because one didn't work right, so their tech support had me open the 2nd one. Oh, and for my "troubles", they sent me a free extra set of ink too. And I can send back my dead 780 and their not-working 850 free, by dropping off at UPS.
So, in short, THIS is why you should buy Canon printers. This is customer support people. THIS makes me want to continue to buy Canon (we also have a Canon camera). Here's one company who stands by their products.
On the flipside, there's our Saab. Crappy customer service, crappy support of their permanently breaking parts. Our 2001 Saab 9-5 that was rated well on Consumer Reports when we bought it? Now rated all black circles, and we are here to prove it. After sinking $2000 into it in the last 4 months or so, the car is on its way out of our life. We are selling that sucker, and replaced it with a reliable boring bland 2002 beige-gold Toyota Camry XLE. I am calling it Nocciola (hazelnut gelato), which yes, means it is beige. But you know what? I plan on having that car WORK.
Did I mention the radio/temperature/time display computer on the Saab died once 3 years in, and is starting to die again, and they refuse to replace it for free. They tried to tell me this was normal wear and tear. OK people, how come this doesn't happen on ANYONE'S car except this one. If you make your displays out of crackers and tape, maybe! I told the customer service person at the 1-800 number, after he called me back 3 times "following up", that if this was the best he had to offer, Saab deserved to get spun off GM and go out of business. JUNK. They sell junk.
So in summary. Canon- YES. Saab- NO.
Any questions?
