Ten Plagues Indeed.

Chispa's school has had another lice outbreak. I found 10 nits on Chispa yesterday.

The tally so far:
~8 loads of laundry, 1 C of vinegar in each.
~7-8 trash bags of quarantined stuff
-3.5 hours of inspection on Chispa, (1.5 yesterday, 2 today)
-30 hair partitions on Chispa to inspect, with color coded barrettes (all soaked in 100% isopropyl alcohol)
-10 nits, and today 4 nits on Chispa, 0 bugs
-1 screaming hysterical Chispa, as I doused her in Tea Tree Oil/Ylang ylang/eucalyptus/citronella oil anti lice spray.
-4 bottles of essential oils (Tea Tree Oil, Neem Oil, Rosemary and Lavender) which will be going into ALL our shampoo as preventative.
-0 nits on Changa- 30 min. check.
-0 nits on Mr. H.
-0 nits on Gruppie Mama, thanks to these folks, who checked me http://www.lovebugslice.com/
-1 room totally vacuumed (Changa's so she could nap) (mattress, carpets, empty drawers, closet floor)

Still to do: The rest of the towels. The rest of Chispa's bedding, vacuuming the rest of the house and all the upholstered furniture. Our bedding.

Did these rememdies work? My daughter came home with lice recently. EEEWWWW! This is my first experience with it and I'm having a hard time getting rid of them. She has very thick curly hair which makes it harder. We tried mayo, olive oil, Cetaphil, and Listerine.

We have long curly waist length hair over here. Chispa barely had an infestation (14 eggs, no bugs), but the Tea Tree oil is POTENT. Holy moses does it smell!!!!!! It's the remedy of choice at her school. I can link you to a website to get it if you want. I hand picked out the nits with my fingernails. Is your kiddo egg free and it's still coming back? Did you do my whole list? To prevent reinfection from school, we are stripping clothes in the garage (and adding them to the next step, or washing them if they can't go in the dryer), and the backpack goes straight into the dryer on hot for 20 min after school every day, along with the sweatshirt.

UGH. Not. Fun. I've also been inspecting Changa every other day, so if there are stray eggs, we get 'em before they hatch, and so far, she is nit-free.

Go to "Sanitation and Hygiene" on the left, and scroll down. We used the Acu-Life Lice Cure, extra solution. It says to wrap in plastic wrap for 15 min. I did 45 min! If you have a kid sized shower cap, that would work too, but I didn't have one. Good luck!!!!! You may be able to find this stuff somewhere locally, if you have a natural food store or maybe even Whole Foods? I wrote the oils in it in the post. Let me know how it goes.

Literally ANYTHING made of cloth is in garbage bags in our garage for 2 weeks, unless I could (and wanted to) wash it with vinegar and dry on hot.
