Health and Wellness- body and mind

Changa informed me when she woke up yesterday that her cheeks hurt and Dr. R needed to fix them. This was not a good sign, given that her eyes and nose have been draining and crusty for 3 days. Changa got to go to Kaiser at her naptime with Mr. H. By some act of God, her pediatrician was on call this Sunday (out of a mere 20 or so pediatricians who take turns with weekend call), and had ONE appt. available. That was it, 1:50pm. Lucky lucky lucky. I was going to my HS friend J's baby shower an hour South on the Peninsula.

I had a good time at the shower, Changa scored some amoxicillin for an ear infection/possible sinus infection. Mr. H survived in good spirits, and got Changa down for a nap in her big girl bed. I'm telling you, Kaiser has been making our life so much easier. Weekend illness? Not a problem at Kaiser. Because, of course, our kids are always sickest on weekends. Murphy's law, right?

Changa slept all night for the first time last night in her big girl bed with her new big girl quilt that arrived. This is a good thing, as she was climbing out of her crib every day at nap, and managed to fall asleep with all the lights on in her rocking chair last week! Time for the crib to go!!! At least if she climbs out of her bed, she can get back IN it. Did I also mention she insisted on big girl underwear one day, but didn't nap, and stripped, and smeared poop all over the white carpet, and then screamed in panic. That was special fun. Just ask her carpet. I explained to her, it is OK to leave your room at nap, go potty, and go back to your room. She was afraid to leave her room. So yes, time for a big girl bed, and big girl rules on napping.

My throat has been scratchy for a week, and I'm not getting sicker or better. Hello? Bugs? Should you stay or should you go??? GO. Or at least be done with it.

I am loving the biking, and have gotten pretty fast and pretty good at riding technically well (I can turn on tight curves going fast downhill now), but am riding with folks training for Ironmans (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bikeride, 26.2 mile run) I'm not sure how long I'll be able to keep up. I want to keep up with my friends, but no way in tarnation do I have the time, let alone inclination, to train to that level. I want to see our kids. I feel pulled back and forth a bit right now. Should I up my bike training even more, or ride with my friends till I "can't" if that ever happens? I'm somewhere in the middle right now. Training harder, more or less.

I got shin splints from running on Wed, and ironed it right out on one of Mr.H's roller thingies. I had a knot in my posterior tibialis. I fixed it. WHY oh WHY don't doctors know this carp? In the old days I was always told "stop running till it's better"!!!! http://tpmassageball.com/

Chispa got accepted to the Jewish Day School, but we were told the counselor would like to meet with us starting now and through the summer for her 1) lack of social skills 2) refusal to listen to adults 3) refusal to follow directions. It made me cry to hear all that, it's all TRUE, but... Our friend A pointed out that Chispa is freakishly smart and lacks peers, as the kids in her preschool don't get her, and she doesn't get them. That's certainly possible, it's so hard to discern what's going on. Mr. H and I are looking forward to meeting with the counselor, and hoping we can figure out ways to help Chispa. We just want her to be happy and well-adjusted, and it hurts my heart that we haven't been able to help her. The Day School sent her a welcome present, she's looking at it with Bobo right here.

Chispa suggested that it was a present because "even though I didn't want to do what they said, I didn't throw a screaming fit". Yes she really said that. I explained it was because they were excited to have her, and all the other Kindy's. She said it was the Best. Present. Ever. "It's so sweet Mama, I just love it."
