So Chispa came down with a fever on 1/2 Wed, and we carefully stayed home since then, waiting to see what it was. Friday night we noticed a bit of rash, but Saturday am she was leaping around saying she was very itchy on her face. Mr. H thought it looked like Chicken Pox. No way, I said. She's vaccinated! Yes way. Bless Kaiser, who got us in within the hour, and out in less than an hour. Confirmed Chicken Pox, prescribed anti-itch medicine in case. Chispa was fine and well by Monday and Tuesday, thanks to being half vaccinated, but we kept her home, as there were 2 spots that didn't seem scabby enough. Oh the ironies, she'd been on break for THREE weeks, naturally we would need to keep her home more. Just to be sure. She only had 24 spots total.
Meanwhile, school said it's OK to send Changa, who is fine. Both were vax'd, but apparently the CP vaccine works 75% with the first shot and something like 90 or 95% with the 5 yr. booster, just FYI! Incubation for CP is apparently 11-14 days. So Changa could potentially come down with CP sometime in the next 2 weeks. Or she might not. I'm sure nobody knows if that's 75% of kids EXPOSED to CP, or there just isn't much CP anymore???
I asked our new pediatrician about it via email (another cool Kaiser feature), and she said it's extremely unusual to isolate a well sibling for weeks. And that it's OK to send Changa to school.
My gym, however, won't take Changa for 2 weeks in case she gets CP. I understand why, they have infants that are 6 weeks old and on. Changa only goes to school 2x/week.
I work out EVERY DAY at that gym. I may need to be completely institutionalized by the time this is over. DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG TWO WEEKS IS for someone who depends on her am workout for happiness, health, sanity, and well-being? Ah, the joys.
Please don't let Changa get CP.
Thank goodness Mr. H's work schedule is flexible these days. I went on a 45 min. run this am. And I've been riding my bike on the trainer (parallel to a treadmill for a bike) in the house Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon. I'm getting sick of my house.
The good postscript is it would appear Changa avoided the Pox. Who knew you could still get Chicken Pox????
