Chispa was nearly in ecstasies all week she had so much fan. Poor Changa by the end of the week was feeling the fatigue (lack of naps) and had had enough, but she also had a blast.

Mr. H and I went on one of the sea kayaking trips, and dolphins flew out of the water right in front of my and Mr. H's kayaks. I had a moment of thinking, oh my goodness, we are going to swim with dolphins for free if they flip us. Then I came to my senses, realizing, these are smart smart animals, why would they clock themselves on kayaks??? It was the closest I've ever been to wild dolphins, that's for sure!
On our free day, we took the girls to the beach. Changa was afraid of the ocean at first, "It too LOUD. It too scary." She adjusted once I showed her how to make sand castles with big yogurt containers I'd brought.

Chispa was thrilled to be able to play in the surf and that it wasn't arctic like here in N. California.

Mr. H and I went on a biking adventure that ended up involving 5,000 miles of vertical climbing, 58 miles, a venture into alpine ecosystem, and 9 miles DOWN of potholes. Oh. My. God. It was the hardest ride I've ever done. It was that hard. Particularly the potholes. I feel proud I did the whole thing though, sometimes there's fun in a wacky adventure!
Needless to say, the 27 mile group bike ride was relaxing and fun, particularly since we more/less knew the route from last year, and could ride faster off the front and then loop back for the group. Thanks to Shaken Mama, we have proof we arrived at the Beach BBQ!

I don't know what happened, but the trip brought out unprecedented levels of sisterly cooperation. I am not arguing. Once Mr. H threatened them with losing minutes of swimming for making noise before 7am, and instead at ungodly hours like 5:45am, (yes, really), I found them in their room reading books after that, so cute!

I mean, when does this happen in our house?

Both girls were SO excited about the campfire, they fell in love with Peter Paul and Mary last year, and were nearly unable to contain their enthusiasm when the singing of it began. Even tired Changa perked up. But again, check out this sisterly love, I'm telling you, there is something in Family Camp air!!!

And of course, we had to pack up and head home, everyone had lost enough sleep, that it was time, our family is uniformly ready to sign up again for next year!

You biked 5,000 miles? Now that sounds like a Peter, Paul and Mary song.
It was so much FUN!! We have to carefully work on convincing Hub-D to return next year. Like make sure there is a lecture by Jeb Bush or something...
yay for family camp! we have camp envy over here for sure, but next year is, well, another year...
Shaken - Yeah, 5000 miles would be a little too epic, even for me. :) I think that works out to climbing Mt. Everest about 900 times, which would be a long day in the saddle...
Don't worry about Hub-D. The first run at family camp is overwhelming. Now that you guys have got one under your belt, it'll be easier to find a rhythm that works for everyone next time.
